Michter's is a Must-See

Hello: Michter’s Distillery

| @michterswhiskey |

The newest addition of downtown bourbon experiences is the smallest, but maybe most unique one yet. Fort Nelson Distillery is the name given to the building that Michter’s now calls home. Located at 801 W Main, Fort Nelson sits prominently on the street corner in the footprint of what was the original Fort Nelson built along the banks of the Ohio in 1781 in preparation for the Revolutionary War. Michter’s provides some of the most unique history among all the downtown bourbon experiences.

The brand itself is not originally from Kentucky at all, but they’ve adopted the history of their Downtown Louisville location and offer one of the best products out there. The best part about this bourbon experience may actually be the whiskey itself (which isn’t always the case). Their staff is incredibly knowledgeable and passionate while they show you around, but when they take you upstairs to The Bar at Ft. Nelson, sipping the spicy rye while overlooking Museum Row makes it hard to surpass. A tour at Michter’s is hard to come by as a walk-in, so we recommend getting tickets ahead of time.
