Silent Discos in Louisville?

Think about a long road trip by yourself and an unexpected song comes on the radio that you absolutely love. Window down, turn the music all the way up, and belt it. That’s what it’s like when the headphones go on at Louisville Silent Disco.

It’s difficult to put into words the feeling of a silent disco but what we can tell you — it was one of the best experiences we’ve had in a long time.

For Valentine’s Day Louisville Silent Disco threw a big dance party at Falls City Brewery - this was our first experience at a silent disco. It’s hard to put into words but the second you put the headphones on you’re in a new reality, your own reality. You really don’t care what’s going on around you because you have classic hits and new bangers playing directly in your ears. No ambient noise, no one talking to you, just you and Neil Diamond singing Sweet Caroline (or Queen B for us under 30). Don’t take your headphones off though; it’s an awkward scene of silence and bad singers (actually do take them off because it’s quite the entertainment).

Here’s how it works. Each person gets a pair of Louisville Silent Disco headphones to wear for the night. There are 3 different music channels to select from and they are designated by color for you and the people around you to see. Your headphones illuminate with color to the respective channel you’re on. Green is top hits, red is classic hits, and blue is new rap and dance music.

Best part of Louisville Silent Disco? When you notice a lot of people changing their headphone color all at the same time. This usually means an incredibly good song is playing, and that usually results in the whole place listening (and attempting to sing) that song. Again, it’s really hard to explain but you just need to try it out for yourself. You won’t regret it.
