You can still get your hands on local beer during the Coronavirus Apocalypse
Apocalyps Brew Works is well known for its end-of-days theme, its taproom dubbed “The Fallout Shelter” and its slogan, “Drink beer til the end.” It was always funny and good-natured. And then Coronavirus came along and forced the issue.
The good news is the world isn’t ending. And while it’s true that if you’re a local brewery junkie, it’s a bit of a sad time, as across the state bars and restaurants have been forced to shut their doors as we try to collectively control Coronavirus. Luckily, breweries care. About all of us. They don’t want anyone getting sick, but they also don’t want anyone going without. As such, many of them are going the extra mile.
Take Against the Grain’s announcement as sort of a catch-all:
“We can assure you this does suck. A lot. We can all agree on that! BUT it’s important to us and our community to create the safest possible environment while doing everything we can to continue to operate as the local business you know and love.”
In that spirit, we’ve compiled a list of local breweries who have made announcements about carry-out sales. Folks, fire up your growlers, because you won’t have to go thirsty.
One of Louisville’s favorite breweries, Monnik Beer Co., is closing up shop like the rest, but they’re already offering curbside pick-up service for carry-out beer and food and also will offer free delivery in the Germantown area and the Highlands, 11 a.m.-8 p.m. daily. They’re going to offer their full menu and also can deliver package beer. Just call 502-742-6564 to place your order.
For the short term, Mile Wide will offer beer to go at the brewery, beginning today. Mac’s at Mile Wide also will offer carry-out food. Tuesday through Thursday, service will be available 4-8 p.m., and Friday and Saturday those hours extend to 2-8 p.m. These hours could expand if demand dictates. Pizza and beer in one stop ain’t a bad deal during a lockdown.
Falls City had a fab deal on cases of its Slam Dunkel beer to “celebrate” what it called “March Sadness.” Sadness just doubled down. For now, however, the taproom will remain closed. Falls City products are available in most liquor stores and grocery stores.
Akasha Brewing Co. in NuLu will be open for limited hours, offering carry-out sales. A new four-pack scheduled for release this week will be available as planned. Temporary hours will be Tuesday through Thursday, 4-7 p.m., and Friday through Sunday, 2-8 p.m.

Lyndon’s cozy little brewery is still in decision mode. Here’s what it posted on Facebook: “In the public’s best interest, bars and restaurants in Kentucky have been temporarily closed to customers for dine-in. Holsopple’s taproom will be closed to patrons during this time, and we will evaluate the options and risks for setting up limited hours for dock sales. We will keep you posted.”
